Solemn celebration marking 70 years from the "Vojnosanitetski pregled" first issue was held at the Military Medical Academy.

The Head of the MoD Department of Military Healthcare Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Zoran Popovic, also the President of the VSP Publisher’s Advisory Board, stressed out that remarkable reference of the magazine exceeds the limits of our country and deserves the public respect. Congratulating the editors and entire editorial office members, he confirmed its importance for the progress and development of complete military medical service, as well as world public interest for all the types of cooperation with the magazine.

The MMA Head Brig. Gen. Prof. Dr. Marijan Novakovic used the benefit from this opportunity to remind all present that all papers published in VSP, the leading military medical and pharmaceutical journal of Serbia, have been indexed in best-known world databases of biomedical scientific journalism thus this jubilee has importance not only for MMA but entire Serbia and military medical service. He also pointed out that this kind of publication has significant influence on professional and scientific development of future generations, whilst the value of magazine impact factor increasing each year only proves it has been read not only in Serbia, but worldwide. Commending the journal editorial board operating within the Institute of Scientific Information, he wished them to continue maintaining high quality level of this medical literature.

Prof. Dr. Silva Dobric, the Head of the Institute of Scientific Information and VSP Editor-in-Chief, put the emphasis on the year 2014, as the 170th anniversary of the MMA, 175 years from the first organized action of military medical service and 70 years of continuing VSP publishing, which were all the reasons why this year has been marked as a special jubilee in the Serbian Army medical service. She made a historical summary of the magazine which can be proud on its long life, and along with the Serbian Archive for entire medical staff represents the oldest professional medical magazine in the whole region. Entering in the bibliographic database of famous Philadelphia Institute - ISI (Science Citation Index Expаnded - SCIE) in 2008, it became internationally important while ranked, three years later, among the 150 most influential world journals in the field of general and internal medicine.

One of the speakers invited to discuss the public importance of the "Vojnosanitetski pregled" was the scientific advisor Dr. Ljiljana Vučković-Dekić, the member of SMS Academy of Medical Sciences, who added that it represents the result of dedication demonstrated by editors, reviewers and authors during the latest decades, along with all publishing-involved members. The fact that one national journal has entered on the international SCIE list has been considered prestigious award and great success, although the act of keeping this high status requires constant work on improving both content quality and technical characteristics.

The first issue of the journal "Vojnosanitetski pregled" was been published in September 1944 continuing the tradition of "Vojno-sanitetski glasnik" published between 1930 and 1944. The journal is published monthly.
